Author Fees (APC) & Waiver Policy
This page explains the Article Processing Charge (APC), what it covers, available waivers/discounts, and how to request financial assistance for Journal of JAFA.
No submission fee. APC is charged only for accepted articles and has no influence on editorial decisions.
1. Introduction
To support high-quality open access publishing, Journal of JAFA applies an Article Processing Charge (APC) for accepted papers. APC ensures sustainable peer review, professional copyediting & typesetting, persistent identifiers, and long-term archiving. We provide transparent waivers and discounts to maintain equitable access for authors worldwide.
2. APC Summary
APC is payable only after acceptance. The amounts below are recommended defaults and may be updated by the editorial office.
- Standard APC (Indonesia): IDR 1.750.000 per accepted article
- Standard APC (International): USD 150 per accepted article
- Short Communications / Notes: IDR 1.250.000 (Indonesia) / USD 110 (International)
- No submission fee • No page charges • No color figure charges
- Optional Fast-Track (editorial decision target ≤ 21 days): + IDR 1.000.000 / USD 100 (optional and subject to editor availability; does not guarantee acceptance)
3. What the APC Covers
- Coordinated double-blind peer review and editorial management
- Professional copyediting, English polishing (light), reference checks
- Typesetting & XML/HTML/PDF production, figure/table QA
- Persistent identifiers (article IDs) and indexing metadata distribution
- Website hosting, platform maintenance, long-term archiving
- Open access publishing with immediate availability upon publication
4. What the APC Does Not Cover
- Major language rewriting or substantive translation
- Extensive artwork redrawing, infographic design, or data curation
- Author-side costs such as conference fees or external statistical consulting
- Bank charges or currency conversion fees during payment
5. Waiver & Discounts
Journal of JAFA is committed to equitable publishing. Waivers/discounts are needs-based and do not affect editorial decisions.
- Full Waiver (100%): Corresponding authors from low-income countries (World Bank classification), or papers without external funding and with compelling need.
- Partial Waiver (50%): Authors from lower-middle-income countries; student-led works (undergraduate/postgraduate) without grants.
- Need-Based Discount (25%): Early-career researchers, independent scholars, or institutions with limited funds.
- Special Issue/Invited: As per prior agreement with guest editors or the editorial office.
6. How to Request a Waiver
- When: Ideally at submission (or immediately after acceptance but before invoicing).
- How: Email [email protected] with subject “Journal of JAFA Waiver Request”.
- Include: manuscript title, submission ID, corresponding author details, affiliation & country, funding status, and justification (≤ 200 words).
- Timeline: Decisions are typically issued within 5–7 business days.
7. Payment & Invoicing
- Trigger: Invoice is issued after acceptance and waiver decision (if applicable).
- Methods: Bank transfer/virtual account; major cards via payment gateway (if available). Bank fees are borne by the payer.
- Due: Payment within 10 business days of invoice date unless otherwise agreed.
- Receipt: Official receipt will be emailed to the corresponding author upon confirmation.
8. Refund & Cancellation
- No APC is due if an accepted manuscript is withdrawn before invoicing.
- After payment, refunds are generally not available, except in cases of editorial error (billed in error), duplicate payment, or journal-initiated withdrawal. Verified cases receive a full or partial refund at the editor’s discretion.
9. Editorial Independence & OA Policy
- Editorial decisions are based solely on scholarly merit and peer review, independent of ability to pay.
- Articles are published open access immediately upon publication.
- Default license recommended: CC BY 4.0 (unless otherwise specified in the acceptance letter).
- Authors may deposit accepted versions in institutional or subject repositories (self-archiving permitted).
