Archiving (Long-Term Preservation & Archival Policy)

Socultra: Journal of Social & Cultural Studies ensures the long-term availability and integrity of all published content through distributed preservation (PKP PN/LOCKSS), DOI/metadata deposits, OAI-PMH interoperability, and scheduled backups.

This page outlines the systems in use, the scope of preserved materials, and policies related to self-archiving, corrections, and retractions.

1. Preservation Statement

All articles published in Socultra are preserved as the version of record, together with their metadata and supplementary materials when applicable. Preservation protects against loss due to technical failures, service changes, or unforeseen events.

Scope includes: final article files (PDF/galley), article metadata (including DOI), supplementary/appendix files (where provided), and reference lists.

2. Systems & Mechanisms

  • PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) / LOCKSS. Participation in the Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe network via PKP PN ensures redundant, distributed copies across partner nodes.
  • Crossref DOI & metadata deposits. Each article is assigned a DOI. Rich metadata (license, ORCID, ROR affiliations, funding, references, and—where relevant—data/software citations) are deposited to enhance discoverability and resilience.
  • Archival file formats. The publicly preserved version is PDF (PDF/A preferred). Additional formats (e.g., XML/JATS, datasets, audiovisual supplements) are archived when supplied.
Object Example Preservation Medium
Article version PDF (final galley/PDF-A) PKP PN/LOCKSS, journal server
Metadata & DOI Title, authors, ORCID, ROR, license, references Crossref, OAI-PMH
Supplementary files Appendices, datasets, images/audio LOCKSS (where supported), journal server

3. Interoperability & OAI-PMH

Article metadata are harvestable via the OAI-PMH protocol for indexing by repositories and scholarly services.

  • OAI-PMH Base URL: https://journal.fajarpos.com/index/oai
  • Supported formats follow OJS/PKP capabilities (e.g., oai_dc/Dublin Core; others if enabled).
  • Common harvesters include Google Scholar (via crawling), GARUDA, DOAJ, and compatible indexing platforms.

4. Backups & Disaster Recovery

The journal server operates a policy of regular backups and monitoring to minimize risk of data loss. Backups include the OJS database, uploaded files (galleys/supplementary), and core configuration.

Recommended practice: daily incremental backups, weekly full backups, and off-site storage. Restoration follows documented disaster recovery procedures.

5. Self-Archiving & Preprints

Socultra supports open access and permits authors to deposit preprints, accepted manuscripts, and the version of record (published PDF) in institutional or subject repositories, with proper citation and licensing.

  • Always include the full citation and article DOI link.
  • State the article’s CC license (e.g., CC BY 4.0) on the repository record.

6. Retractions, Corrections & Removal

  • Corrections/Errata/Addenda. Issued for errors not altering core conclusions.
  • Retractions. Applied in cases of serious ethical breaches (plagiarism, fabrication) or fatal methodological issues, following best practice (e.g., COPE guidance).
  • File removal. In rare legal, privacy, or safety cases, public access may be withdrawn; a tombstone page remains for the bibliographic record.
All actions follow academic best practice and the journal’s ethics policy (see Publication Ethics).
