1. About the Journal

Socultra: Journal of Social & Cultural Studies is a scholarly, peer-reviewed journal publishing high-quality writings from researchers and academics in social and cultural studies. The journal serves as a platform for communication and knowledge exchange among researchers, academics, and practitioners working on social structures, cultural practices, identity, media, community life, and societal change.

Socultra aims to deepen understanding of social and cultural phenomena and to contribute positively to the development of the field through rigorous, relevant, and impactful research.

2. Aims & Scope

The journal accommodates a broad spectrum of topics, including but not limited to:

  • Sociology & Anthropology — social structures, stratification, social change, cultural practices across societies.
  • Cultural & Media Studies — popular culture, production/consumption, representation, identity in contemporary media.
  • Globalization & Social Identity — migration, transnational ties, global interconnections, identity transformation.
  • Gender Studies & Feminism — gender roles, feminist theories, equity and women’s rights.
  • Ethnography & Community Studies — in-depth analyses using ethnographic/participatory approaches.
  • Religion & Social Relations — roles of religion in social, political, and cultural life.
  • Social Change & Public Policy — policy impacts on social dynamics across regions/nations.
  • Multiculturalism — intercultural interaction, diversity, inclusion, and integration policies.
  • Digitalization & Technology — effects of digital technologies on culture and social behavior.
  • Social Ecology & Sustainability — human–environment relations, sustainability practices and policies.

Through these areas, Socultra fosters evidence-based discussions that enrich academic literature and inform practice and policymaking in social and cultural studies.

3. Article Types

  • Original Research (max 15 pages) — empirical or theoretical contributions.
  • Review Articles (max 20 pages) — systematic/scoping reviews synthesizing recent high-quality sources.
  • Short Communications — concise findings of immediate relevance (editor’s discretion).
  • Field/Method Notes — methodological reflections, instruments, protocols, or datasets.
  • Case Studies — well-documented analyses with clear learning value.
Page limits exclude appendices and supplementary files hosted in repositories.

4. Editorial & Peer Review

  • Process: double-blind peer review with ≥ 2 independent reviewers.
  • Integrity: similarity screening via Turnitin/iThenticate; redundant publication and self-plagiarism are prohibited.
  • Ethics: studies involving people/communities require ethics approval and consent statements; protect privacy, dignity, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Transparency: authors must include CRediT roles, funding, conflicts of interest, data availability, and (where applicable) pre-registration.

5. Open Access & Licensing

Socultra provides immediate open access to all content to support a global exchange of knowledge. Articles are published under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0), permitting sharing and adaptation with appropriate credit to the original work.

6. Archiving & Preservation

Long-term digital preservation is ensured through PKP PN/LOCKSS. Article metadata and full-text are interoperable and can be harvested via OAI-PMH.

7. Data, Code & Materials

  • Deposit data, code, and materials (where legally/ethically possible) in trusted repositories (e.g., Zenodo, OSF, Figshare) and include DOI/URL.
  • Cite datasets/software in the References using appropriate data/software citation formats.
  • For sensitive data (e.g., ethnographic materials), provide a restricted-access statement with justification and a repository record.

8. Indexing & Metadata

  • All accepted articles receive a Crossref DOI; DOI activation occurs before or at online publication.
  • Rich metadata (license, ORCID, ROR affiliations, funding, references, and data/software citations) are deposited to Crossref.

9. Submission & Template

  1. Prepare your manuscript per the Author Guidelines (structured abstract, references with DOIs, CRediT, ethics, data availability).
  2. Use the official template (.docx) and ensure figures/tables are cited and captioned.
  3. Register/Login to the OJS submission system and complete metadata (authors’ ORCID, affiliations with ROR, funding).
  4. Upload the main manuscript, figures/tables (sources as requested), and supplementary files (data/code DOIs, checklists, approvals).
